  • Do I Really Need Counseling?
    The counseling process we offer provides personal growth and can be used to help you with any issues that you may be facing. It can be a starting point for you if you have a specific emotional issue, relationship issues, feeling disconnected or in need of direction. It is designed to improve your quality of life.
  • What is the role of a counselor?
    A licensed counselor is qualified to assist individuals, couples or groups toward an improved quality of life. The client is offered insight in ways to develop healthy coping skills, find resolution to bothersome conflicts and improved communication skills. They also help clients discover effective ways to overcome negative behavioral patterns and discover freedom from addictions, phobias, OCD and other problems
  • Why would a person seek out a counselor?
    Seeking out the assistance of a counselor is a highly personal journey. There are many reasons why a person may find themselves in need of a counselor. Counseling is a place to sort through feelings, situations and relationships seeking solutions to improvement in conflict resolution, relationship difficulties, addictions, depression and other issues. It affords the opportunity to move forward in life with intention and clear thinking.
  • Does Counseling Work?
    Studies show that the counseling process yields self-awareness and solutions to issues that those who do not seek assistance may never realize on their own. A licensed temperament counselor offers a trained, objective viewpoint to assist in achieving a better quality of life. They help locate blind spots that may be causing you problems by connecting the dots between your temperament, your presenting issues and the way you have been formed by your past.
  • Is Confidentiality Guaranteed?
    Yes, everything you say is confidential and used in the sessions for healing purposes only and to guide the process. The law does require us to practice confidentiality with some exceptions. By law, the counselor is required to report any threats of harm to self or others, as well as suspected child or elder abuse.
  • What can I expect at the first temperament analysis session?
    Once your intake form, and required tests are submitted and an appointment is set, you will meet with your counselor to go over the test results and set up goals for moving forward.
  • How long does it take before I see results?
    It all depends on you as an individual and the issues presented. It is a personal journey that often requires work in order to achieve the individual goals. The tools and solutions we offer begin during our initial meeting and build from there. Sometimes as the work begins, it may feel worse before it feels better as you begin to uncover the situations you have been experiencing.
  • What issues might a person have that counseling can help?
    There are a variety of reasons a person sees the need for assistance. It could be relationship tensions with parents, siblings, work or marriage. It could be abuse such as sexual, physical, emotional, or anger management, past or recent trauma, grief such as the death of a loved one, trauma-bonding issues, depression,PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, insight to understand self-sabatoging coping patterns or any issues that need understanding and new direction.
  • Is there a spiritual aspect to counseling?
    We acknowledge that humans are four-dimensional beings: physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual. We acknowledge that the presence of God surrounds us and it is in that dimension we can find our source of meaning, purpose, and healing. We welcome all beliefs into the process of counsel.
  • What is the typical time frame?
    Sessions are typically scheduled for 55 minutes once a week for consistent progress to be made depending on the complexity and severity of the issues presented. A plan of care will be discussed once the initial visit is completed
  • Can I be licensed as a Christian (Faith-based) counselor without having a B.A. degree?
    Can I be licensed as a Christian (Faith-based) counselor without having a B.A. degree? ​No, you can only be certified. However, we can help you qualify for your B.A., M.A. and/or your Ph.D. through one of the several colleges that have partnered with Relational Skills-N.C.C.A
  • Will I be trained to help those who are hurting?
    ​Yes, research shows that persons who are trained by the Relational Skills-N.C.C.A. are usually able to help more than 90% of those who turn to them for counsel. This, of course, depends on each individual’s God-given talent.
  • Do I have to be state licensed in order to counsel?
    You need to decide if you want to be in the “business” of counseling or in the “ministry” of counseling. If “ministry,” then the Relational Skills-N.C.C.A.’s licensing program will better suit your goals to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and fulfill His call on your life.
  • Is marriage mediation the same as divorce mediation?
    Marriage mediation is the flip side of divorce mediation. Marriage mediation is about restoration; divorce mediation; is about permanent separation.
  • What is marriage mediation?
    It is an innovative marriage-saving approach utilizing a hands-on experience providing real-time breakthrough for couples. Its goal is aimed toward long term transformation and restoration of a marriage that may be in need of intervention. We provide 1-2 day sessions with pre and post session interventions to achieve your goals.
  • What is the purpose of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
    To voluntarily replace troubling images of events that are stored in the brain from ones that elicit negative sensations to ones that are emotionally neutral or positive through the use of evidenced-based cognitive therapy techniques coupled with eye movement.
  • What types of issues is A.R.T. used for?
    Any problem disturbing the peace of an individual has the potential to be relieved through the use of A.R.T. such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, hyper-vigilance, recurring nightmares, eating disorders, dyslexia, phobias. etc.
  • What makes A.R.T. a unique treatment for trauma?
    Clients experience relief of symptoms with a minimal number of stand-alone sessions making it convenient and cost-effective and It does not require a detailed verbal or written account of traumatic memories or distressful experiences.
